The Green Owls student organization is an intercollegiate community of students founded in 2017 at Columbia University. We welcome current and aspiring “wise,” self-reflective owls interested in engaging in critical discussions with special guests regarding intersectionality in the environmental movement and in our communities while bringing these perspectives to collaborative action with ally groups!
IT TAKES “OWL HANDS ON DECK!”
The Green Owls meet every Tuesday at 7-8pm at Brownies Cafe at Columbia University (Avery building basement, open to the public).
THE GREEN OWLS ARE AN INTERCOLLEGIATE student founded, run and operated CLUB.
WE ARE DEDICATED TO RAISING AWARENESS ABOUT critical sustainability ISSUES WITH AN EMPHASIS ON INDIGENOUS AND OTHER INTERSECTIONAL PERSPECTIVES IN THE ENVIRONMENTAL MOVEMENT AND IN OUR RELATIONSHIP WITH THE EARTH and each other.
WE focus on hosting critical discussions at Columbia University with special guests, sometimes IN SUPPORT of ally community initiatives. Lets’s brainstorm together!
Missed our event co-organized with Our Children’s Trust and 350.org on January 31st, 2019? Watch the “Changing Tactics in the Face of Climate Change” livestream HERE!
“Power is not brute force and money; power is in your spirit. Power is in your soul. It is what your ancestors, your old people gave you. Power is in the earth; it is in your relationship with the earth.” ~ Winona LaDuke, Native American rights activist, environmentalist, economist, author, and defender of Indigenous land claims.
